Teachers are going to begin trying out a new grading program in the third quarter, called engrade. This program should allow students and parents to access grades and information in a more timely manner. Some teachers are using it already! Ask your child if any of their teachers are already using it, and have them show you what you can do using the program. All teachers will be online for the fourth quarter.
We have also begun to use a math program called ALEKS to supplement our math programs. Mr Berta and Ms Matula are leading the charge to assist our students in improving their math skills. Students can use the program to assess their skills and weaknesses, and complete learning opportunities to improve performance. Ask your child if they are using the ALEKS program and if so to show you what they are doing!

Happy Holidays to the entire East Grand community. School will be back in session on January 3, and mid-term exams are right around the corner for high school students. For the following week, though: eat, rest and be well.

The first inclement weather of the year on school days brings to mind the need to make sure some procedures are clarified in regards to the winter weather. Here are some procedural practices to be aware of so things might not be so confusing next time:
NOTIFICATION: If there is no school or a delay start, we will do our best to make that decision by 6:00 am so there is time to let everyone know before they head out the door. The notification will be sent out through our Alert Now system (a phone call) as well as through WHOU, WLBZ, and WABI. If we need to release students early we will follow the same procedure of informing parents. **If you have had a change in phone number in the past few months, or are new to the district, please make sure the office has that number to make contact on these days. PARENT DROP OFF/PICKUP: If we have a delay start, it is important that you do not drop your children off before 9:30 am as we cannot be sure there will be anyone here before that time to monitor them. We will post a red paper on the front door when there is a delay start, just in case you miss the notification of the delay. If students are released early due to inclement weather, it is important that you try to pick up your children as close to dismissal as possible. An early dismissal indicates driving conditions are going to continue to deteriorate. FOOD SERVICES: On days we have a delayed start of two hours we will not be serving breakfast due to the shortened time between arrival (10:00) and elementary lunch (10:45). If we need to release students early they will still be served lunch. CLOTHING: Elementary students should bring snow gear for recess or a change of clothes for after recess. It is important they have dry clothing for the afternoon so they remain comfortable and focused on their academic work.
I am sure there will be other things that come up over the winter, but hopefully we can be prepared for most of what it brings our way!
