Winter weather!!

posted Dec 15, 2011 5:27 AM by Rick Benoit

The first inclement weather of the year on school days brings to mind the need to make sure some procedures are clarified in regards to the winter weather.  Here are some procedural practices to be aware of so things might not be so confusing next time:

NOTIFICATION:
If there is no school or a delay start, we will do our best to make that decision by 6:00 am so there is time to let everyone know before they head out the door.  The notification will be sent out through our Alert Now system (a phone call) as well as through WHOU, WLBZ, and WABI.  If we need to release students early we will follow the same procedure of informing parents.
**If you have had a change in phone number in the past few months, or are new to the district, please make sure the office has that number to make contact on these days.
PARENT DROP OFF/PICKUP:
If we have a delay start, it is important that you do not drop your children off before 9:30 am as we cannot be sure there will be anyone here before that time to monitor them.  We will post a red paper on the front door when there is a delay start, just in case you miss the notification of the delay.
If students are released early due to inclement weather, it is important that you try to pick up your children as close to dismissal as possible.  An early dismissal indicates driving conditions are going to continue to deteriorate.
FOOD SERVICES:
On days we have a delayed start of two hours we will not be serving breakfast due to the shortened time between arrival (10:00) and elementary lunch (10:45).  If we need to release students early they will still be served lunch.
CLOTHING:
Elementary students should bring snow gear for recess or a change of clothes for after recess.  It is important they have dry clothing for the afternoon so they remain comfortable and focused on their academic work.

I am sure there will be other things that come up over the winter, but hopefully we can be prepared for most of what it brings our way!
